Matt Stover was drafted in the 12th round out of Louisiana Tech by the New York Giants in the 1990 NFL draft.

While he couldn't displace incumbent Matt Bahr in New York, he earned the kicking job from the Cleveland Browns a year later. Matt then kept that job for nearly two decades -- through the 2008 season, though in 1996 the team he played for became the Baltimore Ravens.

Always known for his consistency and clutch performances, on November 16, 2008 he set an NFL record, kicking his 372nd consecutive point after touchdown. The kick broke the record Matt shared with Jason Elam (1993–2002) and Jeff Wilkins (1999–2007). He started his streak in 1996.

He was a member of the Ravens when the team won Super Bowl XXXV on January 28, 2001. No player has scored more points for a single franchise than Stover has for the Ravens/Browns.

On October 14, 2009, Matt signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent after kicker Adam Vinatieri went down with a knee injury. Matt was 6 for 6 in PATs in his debut with the Colts against the St. Louis Rams. Two weeks later, against the New England Patriots, he kicked the game winning PAT with 13 seconds left, giving his team a 9-0 record.

Matt-Stover-6435395Stover was used instead of Vinatieri for the 2009 postseason. At age 42, Stover became the oldest player to have appeared in, and scored during, the Super Bowl.

As of the end of the 2009 season, Stover is in the top 10 in NFL history in every placekicking statistic, including 4th in total field goals made (471), and 4th all time in scoring (2,004 points).

Matt continues to live the in the Baltimore area with his wife Debbie and the couple's three children. He and Debbie formed the Matt Stover Foundation in 2002 to centralize the Stover family's philanthropic activities and provide financial support to under-funded educational, religious and other charitable organizations.
